Leap Motion

Leap Motion is a new, USB sized device that allows users to manipulate their computer using motion controls with their hands in air.  I first heard about Leap Motion through Paul Jensen.  Paul is always tinkering and looking for something new to learn.  Leap Motion is just that, it is something new.  For $80, you can experience Leap Motion and download some neat apps from the Airspace Store on a Mac or PC.  Leap Motion is pretty much a plug and play device, along with the instillation that is quick and simple.  I have had my Leap for a week now and throughout my testing/play time, I have come to the conclusion that this device is not ready for the average user.  Leap Motion will not be able to substitute for your normal mouse and keyboard just yet.  Leap Motion is a new and innovative technology that is very attractive and within time could be an extremely useful idea.

The videos embedded below are of my 3 year old daughter using Leap Motion and the full capabilities it has to offer.

  1. Kelly, thanks for the kind word! And I would agree, the Leap Motion controller is a great start to gestural control of your computer, but not ready for a full day of productive computing. Can’t wait to see the product mature and creative app writers to take it to the next level.

  2. Thanks commenting Paul! I will be “playing” more soon. Molly even had some fun with Cut the Rope.
